just trying to do a bit of research at the minute:)

what would you want from your local mods and accesories shop?

what service would you expect?

what would you to expect them to stock?

trying to remember that it is a small buisness just starting uplol

any help appreciated and thanks in advance:D

Alloys, few engine bits like strut braces and filters for bad boy racers! Maybe a few bucket seats, stereos if your looking to take on the electrical side, just general stuff people would buy in store i guess

somewhere that isn't tacky mate. like with them TEC spoilers and LEDs. And definately somewhere, where there isnt 1.2 corsa's with stick on kits hanging out side saying "SWEARRR DOWN JUST DID 0-60 in like 2 seconds i counted it" aka Halfords :P

Naa that doesn't really do my head in that much cos i do it sometimes lol, just somewhere for advise and that sells decent quality gear at good prices

Start off selling cheap tat and work your way up. The only people who buy= stuff from these shops are chavs. I bet most people on this site would buy off the internet or Tweeks or mail order, rather than go into a shop.

a good start wood be general sevecing parts like a good range of oil filters, spark plugs, flushing oil etc. and also brake disks, pads and shoes would also be handy at cheaper than halfords price! lol and a good selection of k&n filters etc. so you wood be attracting more general people. good luck with it mate :thumb:

I buy from mail order and over the internet as these places tend to be cheapest as they tend to have less overheads and this keeps the cost down. The service I'd expect would be to speak with knowledgeable car geeks who can specify and recommend parts and have a excellent knowledge; not the Halfords type guys who either don't know anything or say "stick this carbon effect 5" DTM backbox on for 30bhp gain". Realistic people who would probably be older, still understand modern cars, but have a backlog of knowedge about 70s/80s cars as well. This means you get more competant and 'alright' people working with you who are less likely to tear off to the pictures in a Saxo on 18s to watch Tokyo Drift. As for stock I don't know, what niche can you fill? Parts for Import cars? General 'competion mesh' and rear clusters tat? Trackday/fast road stuff (coil overs, brake upgrades etc). I'd like to see a shop that had a sideline in secondhand stuff, good condition hard to get panels, decent secondhand alloys etc. Sorry for the essay!!

the second hand stuff sounds a good idea cos some people gust want there cars to look like the sporty model in the range (i.e. not over the top).
have some good links to some of the high performance tunners to get the power people intrested. a few tech people that can hepl you fit the items you have purchased or know a local garage that dosent rip you off.plus the usual tat so that the serious modders can tell where the chavs are and avoid them.and last but by no means least will actualy try and get hold of stuff you want insted of truing to fob you off with something not as good.

YES, took the words right out of my mouth. i dont go into those kind of shops personaly, i did today trying to find some heat resistent paint, and it had massive spoilers and jap back boxes every where!

i suppose its what sells though, theres more people around your town with these sorts of parts, than cars with loads of engine tuning parts etc. well there is in my town anyway:roll:

id also open a bit later at night, if people dont finish work untill 6-7 it can be a right pain in the ass getting to shops to pick stuff up.

proper reputable tuning gear. Ignore all the neons & mesh etc

Agreed! :thumb:

and stock some high end stuff for proper performance wise people not just K&N's and back boxs, if you get acess to say throttle body kits at a decent price for example and brembo brake kits?

But second hand panels and bumpers etc, like in this instance Nova & Corsa GSi parts, everyone wants the look but cant afford the insurance!

Tweeks seem over priced.

Dont keep a massive stock of alloys as trends change.
Better to keep a set of multi spokes and a set of 5 spokes, probably in saxo fitment or something. Of course it'll only work if you can order quickly.

Might be a good idea to stock lexus lights too.

is it just going to be vauxhalls ??

id agree with throttle body kits and high end performance
also a good idea to have a lock up somewhere with second hand parts

Opening late would be a great idea.

Problem is you need to find a market where people are willing to part with their money; its all well and good finding people who want this that and t'other - a host of expensive performance parts for their cars, but if the only people who come into the shop are chavs who want to buy neons and suchlike you'll go out of business very fast unless you stock what they're after :(

Nowt wrong with that lol

^^ sad but true, like whats already been said, start off selling the chav tat then progress as and when you can

just want to make sure you dont get a name for yourself as just another motormania !! :thumb:

and if you do order specialist stuff in dont rip people off, there a shop near me which does that, qoutes ridiculous prices then looks down at you when you say "no thanks mate"
