unless your simply after bolt on tat that adds no power as the engine is probably tired.

How much do you want to spend?
What will your insurance company allow you to do?
What do you want to use the car for? ie daily driving, trackday or qtr mile?

daily driving n qtr mile!
keep it largely std and nitrous it for the 1/4 then :D
i'd just give it a a rebuild, they will get it back to standard power...
its amazing how much power engines, lose over the years...
and what stu said, throw some nos it on,
no i said nitrous :p
but yeah a rebuild is vital!!! all will be old and tired unless you pick up a refurb

how much do rebuilds roughly cost? just out of interest.
depends how much reassembly you do yourself, but from about ?200 - 10K
generally ?600ish though

sorry i thought i was on the F+F forum with this talk of nitrous...
i ment nitrous injection
happy now :p
I've noticed that XE's hardly seem to loose power even on engines 15yrs+ old.
Most in Total Vauxhall ROlling road reports always seem to be bang on standard power or even above.
well they would wouldnt they ;) an RR can be swung to give the answers people/mags want...
Hrmm, maybe.
But i've seen a few make like 130bhp, and others make 155bhp, both standard XEs, in the same rolling road report in TV.
put it this way ads... - this is what stu's talking about
mine made 159 at the fly on well lane's...
but at K&N it made 108 at the wheels - and that wont be swug, as it was a free rr day,
so add roughly 25% to the wheels one and your still only at 130bhp @ the fly.....
tbh all engines wear differnetly, depends how theybe been maintained/driven etc.
in the spirit of the thread though.
bolt on toot like Filters/FSE boost valves and to some extent exhausts all give little to no gains.
proper things like head work, cams, pistons, altering the inlet (TB's/worked plenum etc), and a good exhaust all DO add good gains but arent nessecaraly cheap. You get what you pay for basically

Rebuild it mate.
You might not neccessarily need all new pistons valves etc. Might just be a gasket rebuild if all is ok.
While its apart get some headwork done.
I fitted a Courtney Grp N chip on my nova with headwork, exhaust & filter and made 173bhp & 160lbft. The BHP isn't massive but torque is very good for an xe. Fitting the chip increased torque by 5lbft over 90% of the rev range!
It was on a realistic, reliable RR too.
