yer. the bit that you use to tighten/loosen the belt, it bolts to the inlet.

as my new engine has twin 40's its got a modded one , well its just one thats had a bit added on to it to make it longer.

can i just put my 1400 one on it and use a shorter belt or somthing?

as you can tell im new to this twin carb lark, sorry

you need the longer top adjuster arm as the short one isnt long enough (but only just tbh)

i can never recall which damn vauxhall they came off as STD but then again anything from the mid 80's should do it as thats what was fitted to the sport..

ah right, and then i take it i just use a normal nova alternator belt?

out of intrest is it possible to use a shorter belt and the standard top adjuster?

you CAN NOT USE THE STD TOP ADJUSTER!!!!!(unmodified that is)
but you can try if you like but hey you'll soon see it wont work

Yeah i found you need a different belt, someone did tell me which but i cannot remember, mine rubs, or did do slightly on the bracket so it obviously needs to be shorter.

If anyone can remember that would be most helpful:thumb:

Was told the belt was of a Lotus Cortina years ago but think the bloke was taking the Michael. If you have a proper alternator backet which you need to lower the alternator from the carbs you will then require a longer tension/adjustment bracket.

Best bet is to go to a friendly motor factor and try a selection of belts. Last time I messed with my Sport I ended up puttin a belt which was tight and wouldnt go on with rocking the car in gear and 'jumping' the belt on.

I have the correct bracket, and a homemade tensioner which works well and does the job, just the belt that needs sorting, believe its off an Astra Mk2 of some kind though im not 100% sure which one

right so i want a 2ltr 8v top adjuster and a belt that is about 10 to 20 mm shorter than the standard nova one. will get that sorted.

im not sure if iv got the proper alternator lowering bracket or not chris. whats this part look like etc?

cheers for the help fellas! lew

i think you bolt the original alternator bracket onto this little device an it lowers the whole mounting assembly further down?

I'll let you know when i got one and how it works if you want?

yer give me a pm mate if you can. my alternator is a bit loose on that bracket. so that was the only thing doubting me if i got a proper one.

when you getting one?

Mike

you just use the lowering bracket on its own there is no room in the bay to bolt the origanl one to it

right as for the belt i was thinking of just taking my one up there (which i took from the 40'd engine) and just got one the same size. or one slightly shorter. do they stretch over time?

dan23
