1.6 with 1.4 box??

My mate is about to put a 1600 8v into his 1.4i nova, what advantages if any wud there be in keeping the 1.4 gearbox? thanks

If the 1.4 was spi it'll most likely be a wide ratio box, so top speed will be great but acceleration will be poor compared to say a same spec gsi with a close ratio box.
