Can anyone give me an idea of the best way to go about upgrading the breaks on my 1989 SR Nova? The standard ones just don't cut it!!

Is upgrading to GTE breaks worthwhile and is this a simple bolt-on replacement?

Thanks :)

id get 2ltr brakes if your upgrading, not hard or that expensive for calipers and discs/pads arent much difference in price

give good upgraded braking power tho

YEHH get some 2 sets of brembo 6 pots and have them biting each side of a 380 mm vented disk!!!!

sorry couldnt resist, i wanted some 2l 16v ones but what about the v6 ones, is it worth it?

Also i once seen a bmw with one one 6 pot and one 4 pot biting one disk each side at the front, never seen it before, i was amazed..............

all these suggestions are irrelevant untill we know the wheels size :wall:

16v brakes will fit under some 14 inch alloys afaik, defo under 15s as i have them, 288s should go under 15s but be careful because i found out they dont go under mine lol

Thanks guys, sorry for the slow reply!!! It currently has 14" wheels but will probably upgrade to 15"... no bigger. What do think about the GTE upgrade, will they be adequate enough?

if you must upgrade to "gte" size stuff, get LATE GSI ones (or corsa 1.4 16V/astra ones) that are 236*20.

you want ATE calipers what ever you go for (untill you get to V6 stuff that is)
id suggest 256*24mm setup though but that needs non 3spoke 14" rims

1600 GSi stuff all the way. No need for over kill is there! lol

An disc's + pads are cheaper then 2.0 GTE items

I would say 2ltr brakes. Not just for the obvious increase in size but the fact that you also upgrade to caliper and carrier instead of the pin type which seize every 10seconds!

GSi is caliper and carrier

GSi is caliper and carrier

only the fairly late ones. the early gsi's still had the gash delco calipers.

Don't forget the gte\gsi brake servo..

2.0 parts are easy enough to come by, i've had no problems with mine and the certainly stop you if need be :)

Don't forget the gte\gsi brake servo..

makes feck all difference to the brake performance!!!!! its only if you dont weigh enough to push the pedal down that makes it usefull lol
