what u'll need is 12 or 18mm MDF for the baffle and either the same for the rest of the box or a lot of fibreglass resin, sheeting, and some stragy material. my mate even used 1 inch thick mdf for a baffle, but then that was for a JL 13W6 and then a Diamond 12" TDX with a JL 1000/1 on.

when i remake my install i'll write a nice guide for everyone.

I built a custom box for my JL sub (didn't really have much choice as my rear diff makes the boot a funny shape). Spent ages working out exact dimensions to match the manufacturer's recommended volume, but it paid off - it sounds ace :D

I think you'd be better of just having two subs as these will produce enough bass and spend more on your mid range speakers and tweeters. This will provide at least some balance of sound quality, being good all round than just loud and bassy. Are you having back seats by the way?

make your sub boxes within the recommended enclosure sizes.

but............

if you build the backs of the box around the contours of the boot, and leave enough room for the magnat to have 2-3 inch gapfrom the back, and also make it wide enough it will be fine.

making your own sub boxes in installes is fairly straight forward,

just basically box out the back are first, then work forward ensuring you have enough room from the fron of the sub to the back of it with a gap.

u only need to use 18mm mdf or chipboard on the back and the front ideally, you can use it all round if you like but it would weigh a tonne.

i have noticed recently too that some people are buying standard sub boxes, making a false floor, fastening the box to the floor and then shaping the sides around the standard box, that probably is the laziest yet easiest way to do it.

if you need help drop us a pm. i can guide you through it as i done them daily and must be on to hundres done by now!! lol
