Mike

as your (normally) midrange power will be a load better then standard! as in noticably better then normal!

other than that depending on what sort of cam its supposed to have in it wont idle normally

nva_sr

its a 1.4 sr so i dont know it had no idal and the mid range power is quite good so???? and the bolts on the head look new and it lookes to have a new boost valve??? part from that got a k an n and back box

Mike
22-06-06, 01:18 PM
a boost valve as in an FSE boost? its a carbed engine so it would run way to high fuel pressure with one on!

prolly had a new head gasket!

where abouts in cannock are you? as i live in wednesfield by ashmore park! lol

when I dropped the piper into my GSi the exhaust note was so much deeper.

My mates said they could hear it from a considerable distance even though it was no louder.

Does the idle noise sound similar to a scooby in some respect? That's what i mean by rougher idle, as mine does it and mine is cammed, along with everything else

erm how will an FES give the pressure too high for a carb when the normal pump feeds direct into the carb anyway ;)

Adam

Other than just driving it, take the dizzy off and look at the end of the cam, an aftermarket cam will have the model stamped in the end plate usually.

Mike

the normal SR pump is mechanical, bolted on the side of the engine. An FSE will feed to higher fuel pressure and may result in over fueling. SR's dont have flat spots (what FSE's get rid off) as the pump is driven from the engine.

Therefore the faster the engine spins, the faster the pump spins to compensate for correct fuel amount.

do you ever think about what your posting? :wall:

the FSE is for FUEL INJECTED engines... eg ones that run at 3-5Bar not 3-5psi lol.

Under the dizzy theres a 13mm nut, undo it and take the dizzy off (mark its position bfore though else you'll probably put it abck on wrong) and see it has letters stamped into. post the letters on here and im sure someone will be able to tell you what it is. ie a kent 285 has KC 285
Alternatively, ask the guy you brought it off.
Duh.....

usually most folk think the cams are non standard as "it goes really well, previous owner was a rally driver, worked for nasa and rebuilt the engine with unobtanium pistons, and he also had a kevlar/carbon bumhole.

basically geezer, your cams are standard, if the idle is lumpy its more likely that the engine is shagged or you have an air leak.

IF you cam or cams have been changed, i'd be surprised. most people would rather spend ?50 on an induction kit or silly 5" backbox than ?400 on a decent working camshaft, vernier, and rolling road time.

Nath

Adam
26-06-06, 01:41 PM
