View Full Version : Does this height look right for 40mm kit?
Just replaced my rear springs with some 40mm ones, as mine were very rusted.
I think my old ones were 50mm, but there seems way more than 10mm difference in the height.
Does this look right for 40mm on 15s:-
Its way too high for my liking,Lol.

The passenger side also seems higher than the drivers side for some reason, dont think it was with the old springs.

Lol, i think it may be because of how the spring is seated or something, if you turn the spring you can move the final coils position and choose where it sits on the beam etc, whether that makes a difference, i dont know.
I just wacked the springs in, and put things back together :Dlol

i would have hped that 40mm would be lower than that
ive got 35mm springs in all round and the car is soon to be on the ground on 16" speedlines and i was hoping for more than that without comprimising the ride. what ur front lowered?
mint wee car by the way - love it

Front is 50/60mm iirc mate, it looks gheyyy, as the front end is on a slope,Lol.
The front slopes down and the back up, so the cars not level.
If you've got 35mm springs, it will probably look the same as mine with 40mm springs and 15s.
Do rear springs need time to settle? Might get a bit lower if they do?
Mine side-on not long after putting in -40mm springs (15" alloys with 195/50 tyres):

Ye, that looks about the same height as my rear now /\
THey do take time to bed in, but they are second hand springs, so i would of thought they wouldn't have to bed in as they have already had the weight of a car on them before i bought them.
mine on 40mm's doont even look that low! just handles loads better

how long ago was that though?
how long ago was that though?
No idea mate, i'd say a month or two at least.
I've just been standing in the boot jumping up and down trying push them down a bit lollol
Hmm, think coilovers are on the cards :)
I want coilovers too when the moneys right :)
Mines 60mm, but i don't think its low enough?

mines lowered 40 but looks lower than yours.
i put a set of wheels in the back of mine when i lowered it to get them to settle in, and hope it would make it settle in lower.

and yer iv been thinking the same, coilovers are going to happen soon.

Mines -40mm all round and the back does sit higher than the front, allthough I don't have a spare wheel or rear seats.

yer i think mine is just about the same height as yours mikey when i have no rear seas etc.
Perhaps they'll settle in a bit when they've been drove on.

I've had mine on for a couple of months now and they are still higher than most of the novas with -40mm drops. Any ideas of what it could be? Its the g-max -60 kits (40 VA 23L)
If the rear springs were in upside down could it make it sit higher? The writing on them is upside down but they seemed to fit better that way

From that picture I would guess that your car hasn't moved since you put the springs on. If that is the case you will probably find that everything will even out as soon as you put some power through the wheels and move forward a couple of feet. It usually happens with a bit of a thud as well.
If the rear springs were in upside down could it make it sit higher? The writing on them is upside down but they seemed to fit better that way I think the writing should always be the right way up.
Thats how i've fitted mine anyway.
Im going do a few miles on mine tomorrow with a couple of tool boxes in the boot, lol.

looks fine Ad, thats how mine sits, and you can only get the springs one way up cant you coz of the pigtail end at the bottom? Think you would know if they were upside down lmao!
I've had -60mm on my SRi & nova previous to it, but the SRi sits far, far FAR lower than the first one. Looks like -70mm or more... but I had the alloys skimmed to the right offset & rear arches rolled, so they don't scrub. :wtf:

Most -35mm/40mm springs barely do anything on the rear tbh.

but the front is slightly lower than the rear,
Thats normal with all kits
Done a few miles on them today, not happy with the ride height, so im looking for some 60mm, or even 80mm coilsprings.
I like the look of 80mm drop but my is it annoying even on apparently flat roads.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v723/harry03/NWheel2.jpg
I'd say the 40mm drop look about right and looks ok, dont recommend 80mm 60mm might be marginally better.
yeah ad thats how mine sits with the 40mm springs on , i have some brand new 60mm rear springs that i cant fit on mine because it rubs on my lip that i might not be useing
and the writing on gmax rear springs should be upside down
Hmm, not sure what make my rear springs are, but the writing was upways.
The smaller coil end at the top.
If you want to sell those 60mm springs, let me know riggy.
What rubs on the lip? Your wheels?
This is how my old van sat. apparently it was lowerd 50-60mm on the front and 40mm on the back.

if you look at a standard nova it looks miles higher than yours on -40mm springs.
I dont have any pics of novas on 15s on standard suspension, which is why i thought mine looked high, but it seems about right for 40mm now.
