Donegal International 2006 (colin mc rae in a 6r4)

What a weekend. Unbelievable. Missed fridays stages. Up early on saturday morning and made the famous knockalla where the sun was splitting the tarmac. Watching colin mc rae drift a metro 6r4 round hairpins - porn!!!

He finished 8th overall in between new wrc subarus, focus's e.t.c e.t.c amazing result. Was brilliant to watch and the sound of the 6r4 was magic.

Some of the top mk2's in the country turned out and it really was a great rally.

Today it pissed from the heavens through the atlantic drive stage and we were soaked but all the better for the rwd machinery to set the back end out!!!

Andrew Nesbitt won it overall in the end with mark higgins 2nd both in wrc mitsubishi backed cars.

Finally did anyone else make it down to any of the stages??

And can somebody please tell me how to upload videos as i have some fantastic footage.

dont know if its one of the best as in the world, well i cant say really as ive never even seen any ine ngland never mind the rest of the world. But it really was a fantastic rally, and hopefully will go far to bringing a wrc round to ireland as they are making that decision in the next few weeks.

agreed, his work with ford resulted in a few less focus's on the road, then citreon "lost" a few xara's in uncannily the same circumstances! lol in mostly the first bends of the first stages! lol

lol i agree in his last years at wrc he wasnt up too much but he was truly awesome this weekend and to mix it with people with new wrc cars in a 20 year old 6r4 is pretty good you have to admit.

I didn't make it this year, I haven't got to any event this year at all!

I've been to tarmac events in Wales and the Isle of Man and they're not a patch on Irish tarmac.

And the general consensus from any international driver that comes and competes on an Irish event is that we've got the best tarmac stages they've ever been on. Prodrive, MSport, TTE etc have all used Donegal in the past as a prep event for the WRC and development work.

Is the last picture from a different event??

Heh, it wasn't just his later WRC years, he did have a habit of stacking a number of the Poobarus as well lol

And tbh I'd put my money on the Group B cars giving the "WRC" cars a good kicking any day :D:D
