I was talking to a rally driver today, and mentioned about fitting my 1300 worked head and ast2 cam to my 14sr block. I think he was talking complete BS, as he said that Daewoo have a 1400 head, that has huge valves and great big ports, as std, and all thats needed for tuning is to polish the ports. I said to him, ahh you must mean the 1400/1600 mpi Nova gsi/sri head. He said no, its was better again as said with bigger valves and so on. I think he is bull-s**ting, i never heard of any small block head better than the MPi item. He reckoned that daewoo built a 1400 engine and found it very restrictive, so they built a high performance cylinder head, to make up the power. I know that daewoo are part of or copy some of the GM stuff, and he also said the chevrolet (sp?) used this head also, which again are part of GM. Anyone know the score with this?

thought they were so "new" that they all had 16V engines

daewoo made a copy of the mk2 astra, what year was that? i presume it was'nt that old, 90's maybe?

They wouldn't have used the same engines tho/\
THink they were made in about 1995 on.
I think the copy of a mk2 astra used a 1.5L engine.

looking like BS then. Even if it was the 1500 version, chance's are the 1500 head would'nt suit the 1400GM block, oil ports water ways.

i know the newer Daewoo's have a 16v engine called the 'ECO' in them. 1400 IIRC

identical to the 'ECOTEC' engines found under the bonnets of Vaux's.

may possibly be talking sense there. plus the daewoo items would probably be cheaper from a breaker due to the lack of demand?

might have to check this at work tomorrow....

anyone got autodata? check engine codes on there

the guy did'nt mention it was a 16v Would be alot more worked invlolved in fitting the head than simply swapping them. I presume he meant an 8 valve head or he would of mentioned it. Although i still think he is confussed with the MPi head, and was afriad to admit it when i corrected him

I've had a look through autodata and as far as I can see all of the Daewoo engines are 16V and none of the engine codes are anywhere near similar.

The 1.4 Daewoo engine puts out 75bhp (5 less than a Nova SRi) and the 1.6 puts out 106bhp (only 5 more than a Nova GSi).

Basically, even if one of these heads would fit it would be a hell of a lot of work when you could just drop a c16xe in for better performance and a fraction of the effort.

One guy here fit a 1500cc 12V Daewoo head on his X16SZ Astra . . .
I don`t know what he had to do to fit it though.

I can ask if you are interested. . .

I really can't see any sense in fitting a 16v head, let alone one of a totally different engine, it would be such a hassle to get it rite.
But what sounded so attractive is that they guy said, the 1600 nova with this head, was beating everything in its class, even the guy's own 190bhp pug 205 could'nt sit with it, and its even got the benefit of excellent handling with a independent rear wishbone suspension, while the nova was running with the rear beam. Also he said that the nova engine, only had this std daewoo head, just polished lightly not ported or anymore work, he also had a lightened crank and flywheel, and the usual uprated shells, rod bolts and so on, and obviously he had to run with 40s, like any other rally car or TBs. The work mentioned is the minium for a rally engine, many tuners go for much more major bottom end work.

It probably just was a nova gsi lump that daewoo borrowed.

it is true there is a daewoo out there with an identical engine to a multipoint and i know a few rally boys who have done it.its no bull. we had one at work getting work done to it and there really is no mistaking it the rocker cover is a dead give away. ill try and find out the model and this is an 8 valve engine.it didnt seem fast when we drove it tho

cheers polly, would really appericate it if you could find a little info out. It prob would'nt nessacerly be a quick engine. But the head performs alot better on the nova blocks, so i hear. Also its used with good cams and twin carbs

didnt anyone see that cr@ppy daweo ages ago in TV that the owner had put a red top in complete with astra GSi dash and seats etc?

The shell is the same as a GTE, therefore more then likely the engine will be as daweo bought the production rights from GM for it.

ya its a daewoo nexia but tht has a 1.5 twin cam engine that resembles a red top. the gearbox bolts straight up to a redtop
