Hello all,

Have also got myself a new project aswell :D

The story starts about 6 months ago when a Fiat X1/9 came into my dads garage as a part exchange, he was going to sell it on but i managed to convince him to give it to me as a 'fun' runaround. It's on an F plate, only 38k miles and is absolutly immaculate, with only one owner from new and garaged all its life!

Some pics:

1500cc of rear-engined, rear wheel driven fun...

And only 38k miles...

I didn't really use it much tbh, but as soon the roads were wet i'd take it out for a quick blast and have a go at drifting round roundabouts!

Went to JapFest this year and was really taken by the Drift cars they had there, didn't really think it would be my scene but it just looked like so much fun. So decided it was time to see what i could do with the X1/9....

Been looking around for an Uno turbo engine to put in the X1/9 but finding one has proved very hard. Was talking to mate of a mate sort of thing over the weekend and he mentioned he knew someone with a R5 GTT for sale, had been sat in the owners drive for a year but was supposedly 'mint'.

So last night i went with my old man, a tow rope and some jump leads to see this 'mint' R5...

About an hour and ?600 later i had this on the drive:

Also had a spare gearbox in the boot and 5 bin liners full of all the original parts that had come off the car and been replaced:

Have a couple of huge folders full of receipts which after a quick total up are close to ?10k's worth, including three full resprays! The car was also featured in Fast Car magazine back in the 90's! Also has the receipts for a rebuild about 3k miles ago, which included forged pistons and steel rods The paint on it is pretty immaculate aswell, flips through a load of purples when the sun hits it. Could do with having the back bumper put on properly and the quad lights realigned at the front, and a good cut and polish aswell. Other than that though the car is really really mint, couldn't even see any rust underneath either :)

The car had not been driven for about a year so took it easy for the first few miles, gave it a bit more stick as i got closer to home though, and my god is it quick! Would easily beat my Nova hands down

So now stuck in two minds as to what to do with it, i had intended to use the engine in the Fiat but it seems such a shame to break an awesome little car, only time will tell i guess!

I know where there might be a uno turbo+good running engine coming up for sale soon. Car is a state but engine is a good runner. Will let you know if it comes up at some point in the future.

u could always put a punto turbo engine in the x1/9. probs easier to get hold of...or you could put a lancia intergrale turbo engine in it?

Still undecided as to what to do though, gonna keep the R5 for a bit as it is huge fun!

Already have a LET so not an option i'm afraid...

If you have a look on RB in the 'Work In Progress' section there are some shots from when i did it and an explanation, can't be bothered to type it all again!

I would have thought a cheaper option than buying a complete R5 gtt would be to use the 2.0 fiat twincam lump, if it is pratical to use in your Mid engined fiat? Heaps of tuning parts available too, 40s, and some of the lancia versions where fast as stock. The twincam was ALOT more reliable than the R5 pushrod engine, although not just as fast per cc. Still a very good engine, and ppl know how to tune them well as they've been about along time in rallies.

All looks good, keep the R5 it's a good un.

on another point, i think your Nova is excellent except the square plate. Can't u use a small std shape plate under your bumper swage line? would look 101% better IMHO
