Dropped Shelf

HI. ON MY MK1 NOVA MY DASH SHELF UNDER THE DASHBOARD HAS COLLAPSED AND WONT GO BACK UP.
IS THIS A COMMON FAULT ON THE NOVAS?

can you see its like collapsed away from the dash
can you help me resolve it?

p.s.. this was when car was 1st bought so excuse mess.

under the ashtray you mean? do a mk2 dsh conversion, if you can be bothered with hassle lol

wedge a stick between the transmission tunnel & the shelf!!

or a pile of cassette tapes......

Are there 3 screws holding it in place, one on each end and one in the middle to the left hand side of the centre console IIRC. You could slide the thing out, check how the plastic bits in the footwell sides are mounted, these are often put back badly after hiding stereo wiring anbd can affect the shelf. If these are fine and all 3 screws are present, get the self tappers out.
