did u fill the tank right up, and then the gauge simply wouldnt drop?
If so, try tapping it or try to get inside the dash, the needles can stick, ive had it happen before.....

The fuel guage is gash on my nova and every one my mates have owned! I just go by the odometer everytime I fill up now, once I have done 140 miles per ?20 I fill it up! Hasn't failed once....

it sometimes sits at quarter empty or 3/4 full, but it goes down to empty like it should once the engine is off and goes all the way up past full once you start it

Muzzy,

I doubt it's the sender unit. I had the same problem with with my F-reg SR. Tested the sender unit which was absolutly fine. I think you need a new set of clocks, it's a common problem. Would be easier if you could just replce fuel guage so you can keep your odometer reading. Try direct with Vauxhall, but I'm not sure how much they will charge!!

My old 1.2 used to go up and down all over the place.
I used to work out how much petrol I had by the mileage.

just remove the clock from the dash, and then unclip the clear plastic screen as the needle is probably wedged! This happended to my SR when i had the water pump changed as the needle stuck.

Just take of the plastic screen and flick the needle back to its normal position. 10min job!

same thing happen to me, fitted an sr dash then about a week later the fuel gauge did the same, so it went to vauxhall for a new sender (at ?165) and turned out it was the dash, so i put a digi in.

iv got SR dials in mine but they are absolutely shocking, the mileage is screwed and the back lights dont work properly they are a shambles, definetly going to look for different dials probably some more SR's or GSi. would get a digi dash but they are a pain in the ****!
