ok peeps just a quick one.
what are the main causes for overheating?
i've had 2 pipes burst on me in 6 months and i'm starting to worry a bit.
Ok you've got,
Lack of coolant,
Pump knackered,
Blocked pipe / rad,
Shot stat,
Headgasket failure.
There are more options but have a look at those first, most lilkely to be a shot stat, or a blockage I'd say.
Cheers

coolant good
pump does not show any signs of wear. eg excessive noise of pump
not sure about the rad
stat is opening up
and head gasket is good
have to check out the rad and fan switch
many thanks
You sure the stat is working?
Sounds like its jammed closed.
2 burst pipes tho sounds like the coolant system is being pressurised, due to the headgasket failing?

have only just got the head gasket done and head skimmed after the first pipe burst
i guess u advanced the timing after head skimmed. if its too high, u fuk ur head gasket, an pressure the water system.
With the racing nova, the quickest and cheapest think to do about the stat, is to cut the centre out of it, to prevent possible blockin, but make sure u put the rim of the stat back in, as the pressure of the coolant through the block will not be high enough and u may blow another gasket........
I'd have thought it would have boiled out from the expansion tank. Replace the stat as a matter of course. Check to see if the fan comes on too. You may also want to try one of the coolant additives which are meant to drop the temps by about 10 deg C, eg radhib cool by millers, should help keeping cool. Which pipe have burst?

many thanks. i'll sort it at the weekend. funny thing the temp sender wasnt really picking up any unusual temperature. the pipe is the one from the heater matrix to the inlet manifold

That's making me think about a restriction in the system that's causing the pressure build up. I could however be completely wrong.

very good point mate but not much to restrict in the head
I was thinking outside of the head.
