Im 90% sure it will be the hall sensor in the dizzy, or the pin snapped off that the dizzy gets drive from.

The sensor is inside the dizzy and cant be replaced, go get another dizzy from the scrappy or somewhere, make sure its the same type as yours(same colour cap)

See if that sorts it.

i've had lots of trouble in the past with faulty 1.2 spi dizzy's. Replace it, you might get a fresh one from ebay like i did, as there ?110 brand new, but i got a 8 month old one for 60 quid on ebay, so it will last for a long time. If you go for a orignal nova one out of a scrappy it will be at least 13 years old, it will have a short life left. Although you might get one out of a later mk3 astra, the 14nz one is the same dizzy, same goes for corsa 12nz and 14nz

erm thats funny because ive just gone outside now undid the 13mm bolt on the bottom of the unit and took the bracket off and the dizzy just pulls out

unfortunately theres only 2 ways to get the standard ones off. this is either to saw it off which is not reccomended or undo the 17mm bolts around the top of the engine (17mm) then lift the cam carrier and the distributor will slide out.
i did it that way last week on my 1.2 spi
hope that helps
chris

then you will need new head gasket and head bolts, good plan batman

honestly, he has to be taking the piss, first a 1.2 spi turbo, with 3 head gaskets, fillers on the engine bay instead of welding and now remove your cylinder head just to get the dizzy off.
