Does anyone know the maximum decibels of which an exhaust can be before it becomes illegal or an mot failure?

Something like 90db from a distance of 5m or something like that on the road.

Tbh, i think you'd be unlucky to fail a MOT for exhaust noise, most testers dont bother.

Legal limit is 73/74 decibels.

well i just had my nova motd and was told the car failed as the exhaust was too loud?i only got a 4" backbox and 1 box on the system.i had a nova b4 with two 5" pipes and no boxes at all and it breezed thru the mot!I never even got the red fail sheet so was it a proper test or was it the testers opinion?

What back box is it? most if not all of the universal ones going about along with bb4's offer no volume reduction at all, they seem to act more like amplifiers than mufflers.

dont think its a universal one but not sure off the top of my head.
