would a F13 gearbox bolt onto my 1.7 lump

i think i would need to change the fly wheel and clutch for a 1.5TD parts
also would the gear cluster from the F18 fit into the F13, as my other F13 box has a CR cluster and will top out around 70mph

are you sure you would only get 70mph tops? I would think that a CR box and a 4.18fd would still get over 70. And you probaly have a 3.74 or 3.94, have you changed it?
I would have thought a f13 cr would have a faster top end than 70

/\ Remember diesels only rev to 4-5k.
Which is something like 80mph in 5th on a f13cr.
Which is why they require a wide ratio box.

Isn't an F18 a 'big block' gearbox ? and an F13 a 'small block' gearbox ?
Don't think you can inter change small & big block box's ?

It is yes.
But they must be swappable, as i've heard people say you can put a f13 on a xe?
Changing the clutch etc?

Yeah i've heard of folk running them on XE's but i'm sure theres abit more work involved than just swapping the flywheel / clutch / starter ? think you've gotta mod the box to allow the starter to sit close enough to the flywheel ?
Might be wrong tho ?

not wanting to sound dumb but................ what advantages/disadvantages would an f13 on an XE give ?

lol pure comedy im sure the last person i heard that did this had to change the box everyweek as it kept breaking, plus it never actually fitted right. i.e you need to space the box out.

people only do to so they dont have to change the shafts

which is less work than getting the F13 to fit lmao

I never said its worth doing, i just stated it could be done, but i didn't know exactly what had to be done. :thumb:

If u can source some conversion-shafts, then go for it !
F13WR = 3,55 1,96 1,30 0,89 0,76
F18WR = 3,58 1,87 1,23 0,92 0,74

If not, source an 1.5D or 1.5TD flywheel & clutch & starter and find an F13WR...lot's of them around and find out how long it lasts.

Astra mk2 1.5TD (with F16) flywheel vs Nova 1.5D (F13) flywheel:
