same engine as the sr, anyway, anyway it doesnt matter what car it came out of, any ideas for the engine?

Nice exhaust would be my first mod.
After a service etc.

Agreee a good exhaust and 4 branch, plugs, leads etc etc oil change etc etc,

Then see what the engine runs like withthouse mods and see if it is any good for further modding so you dont waste money by buying a cam/weber32 34 and then blowing it up.

Personally I wouldnt have a 1400 from a cav purely because it would have been pulling the heavy cav around for years, but you never know it may be a good one,

And make sure you get the carb apart and clean it dont just spray down into it because it wont clean it, it needs to be taken apart, its surprising how much difference a clean carb makes,

Make sure both chokes are working aswell

i dunno. pulling a heavy car could have run it in better lol

im surprised youve not suggested fitting a big block 1.6 carb engine :p lol

SuperNova!

The 16SV is a small block my friendlol , however I dont want to let my secret sv engine out to everyone or people will be ripping their mpi gsi/gte engines out and there will be a shortage of 16sv's!

Stuart

yeah but seeing as you like a bad engine why not opt for the bigblock 1.6 8v carb as its got all the weight and joys of the 2.0 8v/16v and the fitting chore with all the power of a radio controlled car lol

eg i didnt do this all to a 1.2i ....

1.2i's are the future ;)

I had a 1.2i and I realy liked the engine it was smooth, autochoke, started every morning and would get revved all day and never play up,

There is nothing wrong with the 1.2i engine and with a few simple mods they will eat the less reliable, worse on petrol, never starts, 1.2 carb

Have that stu lol

+ do you fancy a race mate?

100% agree.
with a few mods, a 1.2i engine would kill a 1.2carb engine :thumb:Lol

ok apart from going of the subject a bit, i should just give it a service, new oil, filter, clean the carb, plugs ect
then see how it is. is the pitburg twin choke any good?

SuperNova!
26-05-06, 06:17 PM
If the pierburg is working properly they are fine, if it plays up buy a weber 32/34 but they are not very easy to find,

anyone got an over-all opinion of the old sr engines?

i got a 1400sr and its a beast! my brother abused it for a year, it was off the road for a year and now im abusing it. actually my brother keeps telling me it'll probably die soon. as 1st 2nd and 3rd gears are wicked, and i carnt hold back (if i can say that about a 1400) it just wants to rev, iv only got a filter, a 4-1 manifold and straight through system. if i dont swap for a valver over winter i'll put another 1400 init but one with a bit more done to it.

in the 5 years i owned and drove a bog std 1.2 carb it only let me down once and that was a spark plug failiure..... which can happen to any engine lol

you want to run your underpowered 1.6 against a 1.2 ... thats hardly fair is it :p

ph and on topic there is a 1.4 guide in the site in my sig

SuperNova!
27-05-06, 10:42 AM
Some 16sv's are underpowered but mine certinally isnt lol

Back on topic anyway,

If the carb is working fine there is no need to change it and weber 32/34s and pretty expensive for a good working one,

Service it, 4 branch and exhaust, filter, and get it rolling road tuned it should run well then :thumb:

LUV2XLR8

noice, think a rolling road would be good, i know the carb was set up on a rolling road on its last engine, and that was only about 4 months ago

As soon as any breathing and exhaust mods are made it will need to be set up again to get the most out of it.
