steering rack

wen i change gear i get a knocking noise so i jacked the car up and took the track rod of at the hub end and it moves in and out with quite allot of play and makes a knocking noise so think this could b the problem how easy is it to change the track rod and how do i go about doing it?

track rod end is easy. get a haynes manual.


are you sure its the rack though? eg was the steering lock on? as this causes a banbing noise when tyring to test for play.

well the nock comes from the other end of the rod unside that ruber ribeb bit on the rack no the lock was of

lmfao yeah thats if it wants to play, if it doesnt then your ****ed. Ive had ones before that weve had to swap the rack on after a whole day trying to the pissing thing off.

if it knocks when you change gear I'd look at engine mounts.

i agree, i had that prob and it was my rear mount

wheel bearing when they go bad they make a knocking nosie even more so if you go to skehness on one at 100 or so all they way on privet road of cousre
