I think there was a big hoo-haa about the mobile phone laws a while back as they specifically stated "mobile phones" - so people were using walkie talkies and getting around it. They've probably closed that hole by now though...

Either way, you could just be done for driving without due care and attention lol

Yes they have as i was stopped the other week driving round with a few of my mates and we were messing about on walkie talkies, he said they were classed as mobile communications devices and required more attention to use than a mobile and therefore were more dangerous to use whilst driving!!!
He let me off though luckily lol as i really didnt even think of it that way!!!

If you use handsfree kits on them i think its fine, as it is on a mobile.

Not tried it on the motorway (:tard:), but holding conversations between cars on the move is fun. lol I remember driving back and forth between two cars in a traffic jam passing on messages, yeah you get dodgy looks. lol

If you want a hands free radio system it's pretty cheap and easy to setup. Use some velcro and a protective case to create a holder, get a PPT button and locate somewhere close to hand and run a microphone wire up to the rear view mirror.

My dad works for the DSS as a fraud investigator and it's what they used to use for survielance ops. Infact it's what they still use but the walky talkies have been replaced with fancy hi tec digital transmiter thingy majigs.

We're still using CB down here for some of the events. Handy for when people get lost we put PTT buttons on the column shroud then ran the mic up to the sun visor.

Apparently even PTT can be illegal - anything that requires physical human input is collared by the law. Proper legit handsfree sets are supposed to have voice activated dialling and answering...

That cant be right, minicab drivers get away with it

There's probably clauses in it for police cars and taxis etc. No doubt states "for private vehicles" or suchlike.

Hmm, how long before its illegal to scratch the pimple on your **** without having the plod slapping a fine on you? Makes me giggle!

The no mobile phone law is a good idea for all the wrong reasons! i agree, lots and lots of people should pay more attention to the road, but look at the facts...

To talk on a phone, you can only hold the wheel with one hand. So fiddling with the stereo, scratching your butt, winding down the window and even changing gear should be in the same 'hazard' braket. I know when driving around town where lots of stops and turns are required, this isnt a valid arguement, and the people fannying about on mobiles in this situation does my head in, but on a motorway its a different story. i drive one handed 90 % of the time on a motorway, and ive never been pulled for it? hmmm

When talking on a phone, you'll probably be paying more attention to the road than you would talking to a passenger. Its human nature to look at someone when your talking to them now and again whilst driving. I guarantee we all do it! But your always looking at the road on a phone... again.. hmmm.

Its just another classic example of a small problem being solved with a huge ban! 'the car ran over someone and the driver was on a mobile phone! Throw him in jail!'.. no mention of the bloke who got run over being blind drunk and dressed in black with suicidal tendencies! Same thing applied to the safety camera scheme. First they were a good idea to keep accident black spots safe, but they had to take it further and put them on motorways where the chances of someone pulling out on you or ****ing horses being around the next bend are decidedly slim!

The root of the problem is that over 50% of this countries drivers are very very bad drivers, not the mobile phones or speeding or whatever. But there are no fines or bans for being a '**** driver' or 'pulling out without indicating or looking' or 'towing a caravan which has been badly loaded' or 'being nervous about driving' or 'being a ****ing knumbskull'. Accidents caused by these reasons (and they happen a lot) are just declared 50/50 by the useless police force to prevent them from doing any actual police work. Unless one of the drivers was on a mobile of course!! Woo hoo, it was the phones fault, go to jail!!

Rant over

Ive said this sooo many times, so how long is it going to be before passengers become illegal bacause they are far more distracting than anything else you could have in your car!!!!

Hopefully soon, the woman I was following yesterday had two fighting kids in the back, and spent more time trying to split them up than watching the road  Some poeple really worry me. On the other hand just let them carry on and I'm sure Darwin rules will solve the problem.

Agreed, although the law of sod will mean she'll via onto the other side of the road and hit someone coming the other way talking on a mobile phone, and he will be thrown in jail for killing one of her children.

As far as I know the peltor radio systems used in rally cars are legal for road use, they are a bit expensive though. I once used some of those cheap cobra radios on a trip to croft, anyone whose been there on touring car weekend will know how many cops are about up there, didn't even get an inquisitive look off them.

use a CB radio setup! Carnt be illegal as how many transport/taxi firms would be braking the law!

I take my CB from wolverhampton to mid wales (125 mile) when i go my mates house. Keeps me amused on a long as fook drive!
