the ast2 295 is cheap and quite good, provided you get the fuelling setup professionaly. You can go for a piper 306 i think it is, but possibly more suited to the track. Some ppl on here how claim to know all about cams say the ast2 is'nt that good compared to some other profile's on enem's and catcams and so on, but most ppl here use the ast2 and agree its a good all rounder for power and drivabilty. Personally i found it to be great on my 1.2 T40 and has a great powerband from 3000rpm upwards, and you never use over 7000rpm limit on the roads so the power is usable compared to bigger profile's where peak power is 8000rpm up

Kent ast2. Although for a 295 cam you would be best to have other engine mods.
Have you anything else done to the engine, as there are other things that should be done first to make use of the cam, it would'nt give much more power on a std engine.
Since you have a 1400 carb engine, you would be best changing the orignal 1400 head to a 1300 one, perferbly a ported and polished head. The 1400 sri head is best but you can't run a single carb on it, you would need twin 40s or injection
So with a 1300 polished and ported head, you would see good gains using a weber 32/34 replacement carb and use the 1300sr inlet manifold.
Next you would want to change your manifold to a 4 branch like sportex ashley and so on. Also use a full performance exhaust system.
When you've done this, then a 295 ast2 kent cam would work best.
The parts i've listed are really nessacary for a good power gain, the ast2 cam will not really be any good on std engine, infact it would probaly just make it harder to drive.
Alternatily you could use a 285 cam on a near std engine, it would run better but not as much power.

piper bp285 and weber 32/34 does the job for me on an otherwise standard 1.3, I really do need to sort the exhaust out though.

i use a kent ast2 cam on my every day car and I think it's great fun. Cost me ?60 from ebay. However I would recomend upgrading the carb and your exhaust system otherwise your wasting a lot of the potential in the cam.

A word of warning though, upgrading the cam can make driving in heavy traffic a bit of a pain in the ar*e but it's definatly worth a bit of **** pain just to let it rip in 2nd gear past 3500 revs.

Thats what i was suggesting, if your gonna use a high lift cam, at least use a weber 32/34 and a performance manifold and exhaust. Although it would be all the better if you had a 1300 worked head. BTW i got my ast2 for 35 quid on ebay, money well spent
