engine tapping

on way home tonight and the engine started tappin pretty bad.
what could it be ?

Lack of oil, lack of oil pressure, could be jus plain no oil, oil pump goin lazy, one of the oil pipes or channels blocked up, sorry to be vague but is a fair few things could be mate sorry!!!
