is anyone on their parents insurance on here?i just want to know how you go about it, do you name yourself as the second driver and parent as the main driver?if anyone on here is on their parents let me know the car engine size, your age and price you pay just to give me an idea.

thanks.

not being funny, but theres no point in going on ur parents insurance cos in a yr or two's time when u come to get ur own insurance it will still be expensive. So to me it makes sence to start ur own insurance straight away. but shop around loads first. thats my opion.

meh thats fair enough if you have the cash to pay high premiums now but if your skint most of the time like me then its better to front and then later when i finish college and have a full time job then i'll go on my own.
i was on my own insurance on my old nova though because it was cheap.however it is considered fraud by the law to be the main user of a vehicle but not insured as it.

you just insure ya parent as the main driver and then you as a additional driver.

erm, i'm 18 and insured on a 2.0 16v hyundai coupe:roll: for ?600 with norwich union.

good luck when you have an accident, and they refuse to pay out because your a named driver and use the car more than your parents. this is what happened to me... and i couldn't get insured for nearly a year while the fault of the accident was sorted out. if you cant affors the insurance on your car, get a smaller engine. wait till your older and have more years driving experience. im now 20, 3years experience 1 years ncb ?850 fully comp on a nova gte with norwich union.

It's probably easier to name yourself as the main driver, then if your parents have no claims or convictions, add both of them to your policy, this really brought my quotes down with elephant, by roughly 25%.

While I only drive when I'm home from uni though, I'm a named driver on my mothers policy, and the car is registered in her name. I'm hoping to get it transferred to my name this summer :).

The main driver will also have to be the owner and registered keeper of the car.

being insured as a named driver and using it more than the main/registered owner will mean your Fronting. which is fraud etc. as chimp blokey found out its not good.

but hey hoe you guys who are more than happy to pay insane ins go for it lol jsut dont expect sympathy when your busted lol

Why? My GF lives on a farm and I happily take her round the lanes (stop that thought right NOW) - as they're part of the farm they're 'private land' so I'd tell a copper exactly where to shove it...

Adam

Thats what i was going to say /\
Farmland is private land, police cant do anything.

Should have disputed that, an easy case to win IMO!

You didn't say if it was YOUR farm though I suppose... lol lol lol

lol i would have been in abit of trouble then if its not aloud for playin in my grandads field in the pickup:)good fun, just had to rip the field up before he sold the place lol just thinkin when people say its illegal to use a car more often then the main driver if your down as a second driver how could they prove that you use the car more often???

Jack

Its not so much a case of being up to them to prove you use the car more often, it'll be up to you to prove you use the car less often.

Insurance companies aren't daft, if they see mum/dad with their own car, and also insured on something like a Nova which junior is a named driver, they'll smell a rat.

Stuart

yeah you have to prove it your way they dont care.. they can void a policy at the drop of a hat if they wish

erm, a farms private land so they cant do you !!

when i first passed my test i was only earning 100 a week so i put the car in my dads name (F plate escort, 1.2 litres of mayhem) whenevr i got stopped i simply told the copper i was borrowing it to take the gf home/go to the seaside/pick up pros

how can an insurance company prove how much somebody actually uses a car ?

Stuart
11-06-06, 11:13 PM
yes but can you prove how much you DONT use the car...... its a game they will play if nessecary lol
