Now this may seem a stupid question but,im really struggling now:confused:, i have a 1.6gte and i have developed a problem,wen in gear it wont let me go over certain revs!now wen i first got the car it used to bounce off the limiter at 8000 rpm,but now it will only let me get to 5000rpm in 1st and 2nd 4500rpm in 3rd,4000rpm in 4th and 3000rpm in 5th gear. ive checked plugs leads all connectors?is it the ecu playing up or the could it be the ignition ecu as it smells abit funny?Also where is the ecu located?Any help would be appreciated!thanks guys.:thumb:

ecu is on the air filter.
If you aren't familiar with efi then go to your local Bosch Injection service centre, they have all the gear to sort it. they will be in the yellow pages.
Do not resort to going to the main dealer.

on a std engine you never hit 8K unless it was picking 3rd instead of 5th lmao

ecu is on the air filter.

:confused::confused:

The ecu is located on the bulkhead.

still on the std ecu and std airflow meter means you arent revving to 8K. but hey you belive what you want sweetie ;) unless you wish to divulge more info

half the ecu is on the bulkchead and the other half is in the airflow meter. That system is a tad erm odd.

i dont want to get in to an argument stuart,my rev counter must be wrong then as it doesnt hit the limiter until its off the clock.so have we got any ideas on what the problem could be?

the ecu is on the air filter, and the ignition control is on the bulkhead, at least when I accidentally melted my ecu with a jump lead in 1993, Thats what it was called when I had to buy a new one.............
But you might just have solved it.
if your counter is apparently reading strangely , then the coil or sensor underneath it are where the fault lies

ive just this miunte changed the coil and sensor,but still has not cured the problem,am running out of ideas and am currently thinking bout just ripping the engine out and doin a conversion.

Does the engine rev like it used to when not in gear?
When your driving does the car zip up to the where its current maximum revs OR does it seem to labour more now all through the rev range?

Im thinking that your gearbox is getting tighter and thats whats slowing you up.

yeah exactly when its not in gear it revs fine, i was told that perhaps my diff bearings in the gbox were going do u reckon that i just need a new gearbox then?
