Still stuck with this damn engine...

What I wanna do is not use the loom from the 1.8 8v engine I have but try and use the original 1.3 nova loom. It has a red, flat dizzy cap on it at the mo but I wondered is I maybe used the coil from the 1.8 would the car run as the HT lead going back to the coil has a different end from the 1.3 HT's

Someone told me that I can use the orig 1.3 coil but use a 1.4 nova dizzy cap... Does this sound correct?

Anyone have ideas??

I dont know if it is any help but; when I changed from a 1.2spi to 1600carb I just used the original loom by swapping the distribitor over and it runs fine.

DB fit a 1.6 gte/gsi engine with the mpi tank. its a better engine than the 1.6 carb....

yeh but its the trouble with the tank i cant be assed with! and i wanted to go for t45's anyway to be honest, or something along those lines, what engines would fit my loom and mounts? i gotta kreg 1.2spi btw, i want little work as possible as i have very little room

T45's are overkill on a 1.6 unless its rally spec.
anyway, start your own thread for that

Anyone got any other ideas on the 1800 prob?

Anyone reckon i could use the 1.8 dizzy and the 1.8 coil on the 1.3 loom and make it work...? :(

I think you were asking this last week.

surely as long as you use the original coil, and the 1.3 wiring, you can get an ht lead that will fit. most motor factors do leads singularly, butcher the leads you have, cut them up, and tape them together to fit your installation, then get a matching one. the car should run fine.

One thing you must check is if you have too many wires to the starter. there may be a spare thin wire. When you have a 6v coil, they have an extra wire from the starter so there is enough voltage to fire the engine when the starter motor is turning. if this wire is not hooked up, then the coil doesn't get enough current so it won't run.

Yer Someone told me about the 6v coil and I wasnt sure if the 1.8's coil was 6v....

On my old 1.3 the dizzy was bigger horizontally than the 1.8 dizzy which made me think if there was a difference and I was like

So you think I should use the 1.8 coil, original loom(1.3) and the 1.8 dizzy..Hope it works

I driving from Peterborough to Hinckley every weekend and it's pissing me off that I have to drive a C reg volvo 1.7 :(.
