ive got a nasty problem (with my car ;-)
what should i do about small amount of rust on the rear arches.

get some rear arch repair panels welded in then loads of rust preventer. if you cant afford that then put loads of waxoil on it from the inside and that should slow down the spread of the rust until you can afford to have it fixed

is it just surface rust?

spot/gritblast or power wire bush, then treat with jenolite/Qrust/Krust or whatever, then prime and spray.
if its come from the inside (IE where someone may have ground off the arches) then itl take a lot more work.
