View Full Version : 2.0 8v VS 2.0 16v??
I know that the 16v is obviously quicker but im geting pulled towards the 8v for my conversion, dues to cost of engine, engine maintance costs and ive heard that the 16v only kicks in really at top end and the 8v has better acceleration?? just thought id ask to be sure lollol
Well.
The same process to fit both, big block conversion etc.
But 8v is cheaper to repair, buy etc.
But you can pickup a XE for about ?200 nowadays.
Up to you at the end of the day.
both have same amount of torque apparently
xe has more power though

XE is a monster of an engine. Ive had 4. Love the way they pull etc. Can be a little temperamental & costly if the worst happens.
2.0 8v is also a gem of an engine but lives in the shadow of the XE. It will pull better from low down than the XE but as with most std 8v's runs out of puff just as the fun starts.
I'd love an 8v 2.0 Nova tho, makes a lot of sense to me & all the weight of an XE does the handling no favours. The 8v is so cheap to buy & maintain.... I'd get one of those first. Tweak & perfect the conversion & if you still crave 16 valves then you are in a good position to swap at a later date with less hassle & only the loss of a cheap 8v motor when it comes out.

the 8v and 16v engines are pretty much the same weight though lol so how can the 8v make more sense than the 16v to fit for handling... its not like the 2.0 8v is a small block now.
And the big block engines dont weigh that much more than a small block.
About 30-40kg iirc.
30-40Kg is a lot to be fair... esp when you hang it infront of the axel line...

I just got a 2.0 8v cav 130 engine/f16 box for my nova, cost me ?50 off me mate and he chucked in 2.0 brakes and calipers too :D looking forward to the power difference, better than the 1.4sr it is now, just getting the rest of the required parts. cant complain at that :thumb:
