Can people recommend some tyres that will be suitable for 14x 5.5j Cav steelies that offer decent levels of grip (and that are road legal), perhaps ones that they have used themselves? iirc, someone on here has said you shouldn't go over a 185 tyre on a Nova? True?

185/60/14 are good.

185/55/14 if you can afford them.

195 is as wide as most people go on 15"s for handling. But people with big rims are on 205s or maybe 215s. I wouldnt personally.

I had 185/60 on my Cav steelies a few yrs back, I got some budget SIME HR7 tyres & they were really good tbh.

Ive seen some Pirelli p6 tyres for ?34.40 at mytyres.co.uk in 185/60 14 against 50 odd quid a corner for 185/55. Seeing as its a 1.2 I'll stick with the extra 5% of sidewall!
