"the best way to reduce pollution" (http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/67138/pound200_a_day_to_drive_in_city.html)

How long til they realise this could be a rather tasty cash cow and enlarge the scope to include ALL vehicles over 8 years old

[edit]"backed by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT)" - oh thats convenient. Not like they see it as an ideal opportunity to shift a load of cheap, new cars then...

Humm.. It wouldn't suprise me if they did, but it wouldn't reduce pollution due to the excess of unnecessary (sp?) scrapped vehicles.

As long as it stays in London its fine by me, as cheap a stunt as it may be.

What a load of ****e - Why don't they go the whole hog and say that cars over 8 years old cannot be driven on the roads. That would also cut polution.

Thats like saying haha you can't afford a new car. nee naa nurrr, so you can't drive in london because your car is too crappy. But we will let you if you line our pockets.

^ Was wondering when someone would say that  lol

IMO the government are just using "pollution" laws and regulations as an excuse to up the taxes and rape the poor old motorist for even more money. When will they actually to make a start on industrial pollution for example? Why has the USA FROZEN tax on petrol whilst our government keeps duty and tax high in an attempt to stop us from using our cars? If they want us to use public transport, why is it so crap?

"lets tax you out of your car so you have to use pubelick transport.... or get a job near where you live, oh but weve caused the house prices to rise so for you to live where its cheap you have to drive 50 miles to get a good paying job.. oops, and to travel that 50 miles would take best part of 3 horus and not get you close enough on pubelick transport"
