The previos owner told me the original sr tank was'nt replaced during the red top conversion. It dose'nt seem to cause any problems with the drive however was wondering if this decreases performance etc??

You might find that when you are low on fuel,and take a corner, the engine will start to splutter and cutout, due to the tank lacking a swirl pot.

Yeah thats what i was told, just to unsure i keep 1/4 of a tankin her. Just checking:)

better of swapping it for an mpi tank to be honest, only a 10min job
