i don't see any reason why you can't use the SPi tank. Just make sure you disconnect the fuel pump under the back seats

i used a 1.2 spi tank with my 40s on a small block and it was fine, i just used the sr mechincal pump and a regulator. You'll prob want a pressure regulator too with your new pump, but i think facet do pumps for 45s or 40s so they're below 5psi

get a regulator regarless of the pump.. better to be safe than sorry

is it possible to use the orignal spi electric pump with a regulator to bring the psi down to 3-4 psi?

Yeah.

i wouldnt want to rely on the spi pump flowing enough fuel though...

SPI pump supplies about 11psi, should be plenty for carbs.
Use a regulator to lower that to about 3psi.

the pressure might well be fine but its flow rate might be gash for an potential upgrades other than a simple set of 45's on an XE

True ye, i have no idea what the flow rate is :), Lol.
