Does ne1 out there have anytips on a first car. i was thinkin of gettin a 1.2 all kitted because they come quite cheap and are a smart car.Is the Abyss the best bodykit to have on a nova and a wot price can you pick them up at?Also wots the best ice at the best price you can have installed in your car? B-)
I have a mk2 1.2 (new style front) - excellent 1st car - easy to mod, v cheap to run (mine does 60 miles a day on motorway and can get 380 miles to a full tank at average 90 :p) + insurance is dirt cheap. Dunno about abyss bodykit as I'm going for the gsi look for my car - have most bits already. Ice wise depends on your listening tastes - decent set of 6x9's in the rear (I just got infinity 300w set for ?80 - halfords), good set of front speakers mounted in pods in door or in foot wells (just got kenwood 2way 140w for ?50 but some will advise get set with tweeters), a sub for deep bass, decent head unit (min 4x40w I have been told) - kenwoods are good and a suitable amp to drive it all without shagging your head unit (alpine in halfords on sale for ?80). Speak to local ice shop (wots your budget) or check out the ice page on this site. Hope this helps :)

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal labotamy!

Don't have speakers in rear shelf AND a sub in the boot as they fook each other up....force of air-pressure from the sub will cause distortion in the sound from the shelf speakers and reduce performance.
Best option is to have the shelf speakers boxed (enclosed) if you really want them, but better to have 'em in the rear side panels....easy to make some custom builds for 'em located there and separates them from the sub(s).
My mate John's rear shelf was 6" deep 'cos he built enclosures for his 6x9's.....made the boot a LOT smaller but the sound was a million times better!
Have the most powerful mid-range and high-range speakers in the front facing you if possible.....mids can be mounted in foot-wells or doors, both requiring custom-pods/builds for best sound. Tweeters on top or near to top of dash, but depends on position of mids and on what speakers you use.
I'm ditching my rear-shelf 6x9's and fitting them in front-door pods along with foot-well mounted 5 1/4" mids, plus 1" dome tweeters on the dash (with cross-overs for the mids and tweeters), then a 10" or 12" sub in ported enclosure in boot. Oh, and an amp of course!
As for body-kit, standard GTE/GSi stuff is fairly easy to get hold of and cheaper than after-market kits, plus they look better IMO.
Plus, they fit perfectly with no hassle, unlike none-GM kits.
GTE kit is rarer these days as most go for the GSi look. It depends if you get a MKI or II really......not much point fitting a GTE kit on a MKII is there....then again....I'd quite like a mint condition, late, low mileage MKII and turning it into a GTE replica (inc full MKI front).....K-plate GTE anyone? Would be different!
