Hi All
Some stupid **** tried robbing my Nova mk2 1.4i, now theres a flat head screw driver end inside the steering coloum barrell lock and the key only goes in half way.
They must of been drunk as that would never work and beable to steal a car like that. They also smashed the window after wrecking the lock with no success :@
The steering coloum itself has some bolts which we cant undo due to the theif proof ones.
What shale i do?
rip the bottom half of the cowling off and use the black cap :D well its technically a mercy whhite colour.
u can always get the cowling off and use the car that way and then sort out about drilling the bolts off.
as for the steering lock though, you may have to snap it unless it will come off when u turn the cap to ignition
you need to remove the ignition switch(the little black box thing behind were the key goes)then you should be able to remove igntion lock by turning it to postion 2 an insert a small screw driver into the hole so it pops out
it shows you how to do this in haynes
if you cant turn the lock because of the screw driver remove the ingntion switch an remove the to bolts so u can take the lock an housing of
the easyest way to remove the bolts (i think ) would be to weld a nut to em if you dont have a welder a garage should do it for a few quid
if you take lock housing off it releases the steering lock

cheers for the replies,
I have a hanyes and will check this, didn't think they would print this kinda info. My hanyes mabey an old one say mk1's only is it the same?
luckly they didn't remove the switch on the end of the barrel but i can't put the lock in position2 as the key doesn't go in all the way GRR
Need steering so we can steer it onto our trailer as its not at our house.

i was thinking tweezers etc??
looked in the hanyes and need to drill a bolt out to remove the whole coloum and sadly no access to a welder.

I had to drill mine out when mine got nicked little buggers did the ignition switch too.
just been trying to remember when i did mine,if you look at the lock housing it has a clamp that goes around the colum the clamp is fastened by one funny shaped bolt (its hex shaped with splines on) if you find a hex shaped socket the correct size for the bolt you can tap it on with a hammer an undo the bolt remove the lock an housing undo the small screw holding the ignition switch on to the back off the lock prise the switch off with a screw driver (this will break the lugs off the switch because the key isnt at position 2) .then you will be able to steer an start car with screw driver in end of switch .then just buy another lock an key from scrappy
