This (http://www.novaload.net/forum/showthread.php?t=62586) thread has got me thinking. What do people class as "chav" modifications?

IMO I'm thinking pointless mods - i.e. those that serve no real function ('appearance' is not counted as a 'function' lol). Think EDVs, graphics for products not present on the car, massive touring-car style spoilers on fwd cars, fake brake discs, stick on non-functional vents...

Discuss :D

Does having 3 mates in the car with baseball caps on count as a mod?

Under car neons, LED number plate bolts, stupid font plates, more fiberglass than metal (kit cars excepted) lol

Anything you'd expect to see in a fast and the furious film (apart from the classic muscle cars).

6x9's on show on the parcel shelf not stealthed as they should be. Aftermarket gearknobs and steeringwheels in an otherwise standard poverty spec interior.

Spinners. Of the crap plastic kind, the 20" chrome ones on 4x4's just make you look like a tosser, not like a chav.

Anything that remotely relates to "burberry".

Any mods that could have been good, badly done. For example, I generally think smoothed nova tailgates look chavvish, but I have seen a few that looked good, I think most of that boils down to the choice of bumper + numberplate recess + exhaust tip combination.

Splattering any kind of manufacturers names or logos on the exterior of the car, unless you race it, and those manufacturers happen to be your sponsors.

On a car that has a centred front numberplate, sticking it to one side, unless the bumper fitted was specifically designed for that with a designated space for it.

I think it depends on the car too, you can add plastic and fibreglass to for example a nova, and have it look good, but at least 95% of them don't. Its a case of an M3 bodykit looking good on a 3 series, but not on a nova. Or the dodge viper pair of stripes running down the middle, on a nova/saxo. Another example would be jap style kits on novas I see as chavvish, jap style kits on an evo look like an evo...

sunstrips that say 'motorsport'

those crappy little replacement alloy ariels, even worse are the anodised ones.

harness pads on seatbelts.

anything that bares the words 'max power'

wheel trims that look like alloys.

clip on tail pipe trims.

windows that are tinted far too much or even those ones that fade from a colour to silver or black!

chrome wheels.

stickers.

i wouldnt necessarily say chrome rims are chav, as alot of people have them who arent particularly chavs. but id say washer jet Led's more than 2 exhaust pipes and what we call baby head exhausts!

IMO I'm thinking pointless mods - i.e. those that serve no real function spot on! :)

Chav cars in general usually look pretty bad. Come down to Bridgewater if you wanna see the most pathetic attempt of cars. Lmao. We saw one the other day that did seriously look like a space rocket. And the sad thing is, is that they have nothing better to do then drive laps around McDonalds drive through.lol

I saw I think one of the most chavy cars ever the other day. Twas a girls car. It was pink. Had playboy EVERYTHING....number plate, seat covers, steering wheel cover, playboy bunnies sprayed onto the car. The exhaust I could have fitted my head into. This car nearly made me throw up. And then the chav that drove the car came out and she was just as bad....Well...Hugh Heifner wouldn't have looked twice at her.:wtf:
*Sigh* Tsk Tsk

I'm going to contest that one as some after market gearknobs can look ok - something like this:

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e316/KinwayMotorsports/TRDLeatherShiftKnob.jpg

...TRD gearknob wouldn't look out of place in my interior. However, the bling bling nigga nigga chrome flashy LED jobbies ARE chav.

Oh! And 'fake' carbon bonnets, i.e. those painted black on a non-black car lol

Ok i give, I had the chome ones in mind when I said it.

As to LED washers, anyone who's seen this before will know I edited it so as not to circumvent the swear filter here, anyone who hasnt seen it, the word I changed started with W and rhymed with tanker.

That one about sums it up. Stick-on **** which doesnt look good (universal spoiler etc).

As for product stickers, I put a K&N sticker on my grille. And I don't have a K&N. It was a joke but I never took it off. lol

What about 60's and 70's American/Aussie muscle cars with black bonnets...?!

I will only change something if it needs changing to improve my driving experience. Chavs don't think like this, they consider show to be more important than go. Neons/LEDS do not improve the handling of my car, stickers will probably result in it being stolen because the chavs think it is modded. Even if it clearly isn't.

Black bonnets should only be put on old skool cortinas! I believe it used to be called the 'stage 1 tune' lol

My pet hate is big shiney wheels on rusty ****ters, where the arch has been cut away leaving jagged edges to get them to clear. Uber funny !

I think the worst chav mod has to be spinning chrome wheel trims and 'motorsport' sunstrips that cover 3/4 of the windscreen! lol

What about alloy wipers with spoilers on the back window?!?! Saw it done to a Corsa in Cardiff yesterday, don't quite see the point my self.

lol quality line!

theres a cav down the road that is well bad!! he used to have a mk2 astra that was faded red (pinky) with GOLD wheels and some sketchy back bumper!

now hes got the white cav, its got fake black bonnet vents with chrome in the centre of them:roll: a big rear 'need for speed' spoiler. fake twin headlight covers that are black a fake roof vent also black, and he had 13" chrome spinners on it, but has now got 17" white tsw evo R's

actually i might run past and take a piclol

On my way home from East Huntspill a minute ago I was behind a 206 that had flashing lights in the rear cluster - so the brake, indicator, reverse and even the centra fog light were flashing in some weird random sequence. Nearly shat myself as I thought he was going to reverse into me

black bonnets are ace! it is a purposeful mod, (matt) black bonnet - no sun glare so you can see where your going...better

Yes I'm sure people think that when they paint their bonnet black.

If you happen to be in world war two and fly a Mustang or P38... I don't think our Nova bonnets are long enough to get many glares!

seat belt pads chav mod i think not.

02-05-06, 03:40 PM
ther the worst unless you have harness and an engine that will put you in the back of your seat. i couldn't have my harness as tight as i need without em. They just get in the way with a seatbelt!!

i went to yarmouth sunday nite and i saw an mk4 escort with escort 1.3L on one side and max power on the other side of the boot! lol

Why waste money on expensive rear spoilers?
Simply prop the boot open. I find a lawnmower or several items from B&Q do the trick...
Just to stir emotions; I think mk1 SR interiors look just a little bit burberry.......
