Does anyone know what all the plugs are on the E16SE loom? I've still got one left over.

Pretty sure I do.

You might want to describe it & its rough location & maybe a picture.

Is it GTE or GSi (bosch or siemens) ECU?

Its a Bosch ECU, the plug is near the injector plugs, looks like it would'nt stretch much further away from the inlet manifold and the actual plug looks like a injector plug (but its deffo not a injector plug) its not effecting the car starting up or running, it idles a little high around 1100 rpm so its not effecting the engine that much.

Idle control valve...?

Its bolted to the back of the cam housing (similar position to a carb fuel pump).

I'm sure if the ICV was'nt plugged in it would'nt idle at all, my engine idles but just a little high.

It would idle without it connected.

The ICV controls the intake air that bypasses the throttle butterfly in order for the engine to take in air when the throttle is shut.

The ECU detects the idle speed & load etc & varies the opening within the ICV to make it idle correctly. They can get sticky with age & not operate properly, thus idle high because the valve is stuck open etc.

if its not connected it just wont idle properly.

Ye, as above, it would idle with the icv unplugged, as it would just stay in the position the ECU left it in.

Perhaps if you could confirm yours is plugged in & then we can move on & tackle the next idea.

IS THE ICV PLUGGED IN?

Sounds like the air temp sensor plug?

Right, its got a Siemens ECU and a Bosch Air flow meter.

The IACV is plugged in confirmed.

Right, my inlet manifold has the hole in it for the Air Temperature sensor but there is no temp sensor in there.

In the pic below is the plug for the air temp sensor but my plug looks slightly different and has different coloured wires which are - Brown/Blue - Brown/Red rather than whats shown below.

Any ideas? Did they change the plugs on the later E16SE?

Getting quite desperate now.

IIRC on the GTE there is a kind of dummy sensor (plastic) that is mounted on the back of the inlet manifold. It has a sensor plug on it but dosent do anything if you ask me.

That might be it. Its just threaded into the back of the manifold.

Cant remember the name of the thing in yer pic but I'm on about something else.

THing is, I have the GSi engine and the plug must do something.

Also do you know if using the square type coil rather than the cylindrical one will make a difference on the GSi engine.

Has anyone got a part number for the air temp sensor for the GSi E16SE?

Oil temp sensor ?

Now just to confuse things further (this is driving me f-ing nuts) Vauxhall don't list the E16SE as EVER having a air temp sensor, although I know for a fact it did, because the picture above was taken from a E16SE.

according to my epc, there is an air temp sensor listed for the c16se engine. The part number is 25037370 and is also listed on the c14se engine. which vauxhall did you try?

I believe I've found what it is, its the oil temp sensor, but why is this on the engine loom?

I believe I've found what it is, its the oil temp sensor, but why is this on the engine loom?

Because the ECU uses it to measure a value in order to run the injection system. Its not for the dash gauge.

Cheers Craig, you've been very helpful.

Ive got an oil temp sensor in my door pocket. Took it out of a GSi block I ditched a few weeks back.

Yeah, mine is still in the block just never noticed it there.
