help on 17s

hi can anonne help, im gonna fit 17 to my 1.3 sr, itslowered 60mm and currently has 15 inch tigra alloys on.
the rear arches are new ones due to the car being a c reg and have been ground back and the front arches are standard.
now what i want to know is how much work needs doing and wots the best offset coz i thought it was 45 2 49 mm but i was
at a cruise and asked a guy who had them on his and he said 38mm is best coz thhere easier to fit in the arches and he didnt
get any dodgy handling ,please help me

lol et45 17x7 and either 205/40 or 195/45 tyres. remove rear lips and tap back inner arch. Front arches will need rolling/flaring. The guy with et38 wheels doesnt know what he's talking about :o P.S your car is gonna handle like a boat, mine does lol
