if you buy your insurance from a high street broker, 9 times out of 10 they will issue you with a cover note over the counter when you hand over your readies. Be warned though that A plan and Bennets etc.. will probably be more expensive than admiral or direct line etc...

You could also ask your insurer to fax you a cover note if you have access to one, but im not sure if the PO will take a fax to issue a tax disc.

Good luck with the test!

im gonna try either print off a cover note (going wit adrian flux so cant get a physical cover note today) or get one faxed thru (surely th P.O. will check all details before issuing tax disc?

you cant get cover notes faxed through. ive tried several times.

Why not do it online? that way the dvla should have your insurance details to "hand" so to speak.. that is assuming that you ahve a new electronic MOT

They wont accept a fax/scan/copy.
It has the be the 100% original document.

You need MOT, and insurance, to tax the car. And you need to fill in a Tax form.

How can it be original if its being emailed to you????
It will be printed out off your pc so its not original.

They wouldn't accept a copy of my insurance policy that looked 100% the same as the original, but some of the text looked photocopied.
I didn't even know it was a photocopy till the post office bloke told me,Lol.

what im saying is, how are THEY (the post office staff) to know that its not the original?

if i say it is, and it looks like it, tthen surely they have to go ahead with it?

its an email copy so there will be no photocopy marks on it

When I insured mine on-line last year I waas told to print out the cover note, the P.O. accepted it with no problems the very next day.

Thats true. Hence why the online tax thingy is no good for people who want tax NOW as you still need to wait 4-5 days for it to come thru the post - might as well wait for the insurance documentation/cover note to come through and do it in person.
