View Full Version : Castle coombe action day!

A very top day had by all methinks!

I had a bit of a mare in the first session due to sitting the car a tad too low than it should have been. Im used to seeing blue smoke pouring off the tyres, but not off power mid bend lol. Back in the pits after only 2 laps, i discovered the rears had collided with the top of the turrets and worn a nice big groove in me tyres!

After wondering round the car with a jack and hoisting the bitch up an inch or so, i had 2 very succsessful sessions. The extra weight i removed during the winter and relocating the battery in the boot has had an uber positive effect (last year i did 4 sessions at coombe and the rear tyres still looked brand new, however just after one this year they were nicely scrubbed and warm, so i rekon ive definately sorted the weight distribution )

Also, the Toyo R888's are awesome! They just grip like MOFO's and dont go off at all, even though they were like playdough at the end of a session!
And my courtenay disks and Pagid FR pads were also superb, i was suffering no brake fade at all and they bite perfectly, dispite not giving them much chance to bed in

Dar also had a good day, suffering his own problem with a missfire halfway through a session but it cleared nicely and he went on to his usual stupidly fast self! We had a good side by side battle up the main straight, but slower traffic and Dars LSD and superior car meant keeping with him was a no no lol

I will post some more pics of the day when Mr Watts on PVG gets them up, and there will hopefully be some videos floating around ill be collecting. Dar also has 3 videos ready for viewing on www.daxtek.co.uk (http://www.daxtek.co.uk) as usual!

We found this vid of the ****roen AX owners club exploits.

Around the 2.5 minute mark, youll see Dar hooning it up the s/f straight, and at just over 3 mins youll see me hooning it past the two AX's the guy was filming.

SRlew - It dosen't matter what engine you have in there, as long as you have fun!!!:thumb:

My dads car has a modifyed 1.6 Turbo lump in it. It started off life as a XR3i and then was turned in to a rally car. Its a real mix and match of parts from other cars as well. Its got a Lancia intercooler, Nissan Pulsar Hubs (I Think) and fiesta front breaks on the rear along as a whole host of other bits and bobs.

so you have finally done it then Lee. question mate, what is your spoiler? Looks nice!

Dar, as i pm'd you where'd you get your Passenger foot rest?

Lee
25-04-06, 01:36 PM
Not sure if theres any glare mate, i dont tend to look at em much, just a quick glance every lap to make sure everythings cosher! A MK 2 dash cover could probably easily be grafted on, might be something to try.

Spoiler is a 206 jobbie glued to a standard GSi one mate. Your the first person to express interest in it so ill let you know when it comes off later in the summer if you want it. Flush tailgate also coming off cos the rot is setting into it and the amount of weight i can lose from just removing it and putting on a standard one with some metal chopped out of it will ne nice!

PM Replyed to.

As for the dash thing. I was also told about just cutting off the section left of the clocks, so you are just left with the drivers side piece. Then just cover the end up.

To make up a dash like mine is not that difficult but you do need to spend some time fiddling and playing to get it right. You also need to go to a dressmakers shop to get some material. I felt really out of place....Took the wife and kids though, to make it look like I was looking for her :D
