Have any of you give fitted anything other than white dials or digi dashes? I want to go with something different and was thinking about coloured acrylic. when you scratch it or drill into it, and then shine a light from an edge it refracts the light making it glow strangely - see those weird clip boards for an example. What kind of thickness do you have to play with in the dash? I dont wanna fowl the needles - and is there any law they says your dials cannot be messed with (apart from the mileometer that is).

You could be really adventurous and fit a corsa dash maybe ?

I had MKII Cavalier dials in my last Nova.

The storey is this.....I had a digi dash fitted in the MKI dash, but when I sold the car I wanted to keep the digi dash to fit in the GTE but was left with a problem......a huge hole in my dash that needed filling!

The original nova ones wouldn't fit then I realised that either the Cav or Astra/Belmont ones would fit as they're the same size/shape as the LCD unit.
Luckily, my uncle was stripping an old MKII GL so I had the clocks from that for free!

Here's a couple of pics:

They look really smart at night as the edges of the rims illuminate (kind of shows up in the first pic but looks better in the flesh)

Just an idea.

P.S. You can also get ones that include battery voltage and oil-pressure gauges unlike the one I had which just had warning lights. You have to get it from an OLD SRi or CDi though....I mean old...like 1983!

my birds got a seat ibiza - now that has a smart dash - blood red illumination that with the turn of a knob on the door makes the entire dash either glow bright blood red or a dark sinister red just visible - really smart at night.
I wouldnt mind being able to change the bulbs over to some leds (bright ones) as the nova standard dash lights turn yellow after a while and give out shite light. Anyone know any decent bulbs/led alternatives???

ages ago in revs I saw a nove with see-through dials that looked rude as hell...quite hard to read though. They had a nice red backlight. I have no idea where they came from.

Do all the dials work correctly if you put in say some astra or cav ones......? Surely the speedo and things aren't going to be calibrated the same.....

thats my mates car (same car you were enquiring about the other day) Its all custom made, the clocks came from America.

Yes i corsa dash does fit in a Nova, ask PAG about that, he's done it.

Nice one Breeny...

As for speedo calibration, I never noticed any difference with that Cav dash, after all, Cavs, Astra and Novas tend to use the same gear boxes and similar sized wheels/tyres so there's not going to be much of a difference.
I never tried it on the motorway though as I fitted it just before I sold it so didn't drive it much with that dash fitted.

Either way, it's only going to be the same as using an Astra LCD dash and loads of Novas have those fitted.....the calibrations only going to be the same (ish)

I always wondered about the Senator or Carlton digi dash and if that be made to fit, but it's bloody huge......might be worth looking into, especially if you look into building a fully custom-built dash.
