OK, for those that have resprayed their cars fully, I'm looking for advice.
I'm after a decent bodywork sealer (not waxoyl ) that I can apply before I apply the primer and then the paint.
I have a reference book (american unfortunately) that refers to a product called DP40 epoxy sealer by a company called PPG. Applied with a spray gun it acts as a water sealer preventing oxidisation of bare metal (my arches!) making it ideal for my needs. Does anyone know the UK euqivalent or can anyone recommend a decent similar product (not 2 pak - I like life!) - or is the above available in the UK? I'm not respraying for a month or so yet but trying to gather as much stuff now whilst I can.
All help appreciated.

etch primer is the thing for bare metal. you can get it from any paint shop supplier.

you can paint straight over it with anything, but the better way is to apply a couple of coats of etch primer followed buy a couple of coats of celly primer. this way when you wet flat it you will only be flatting the celly primer leaving the etch primer to protect the metal.

apples, can you then spray cellulose based paint over this?
Does it seal and prime or do you still need to prime on top. I'm taking my car right back to metal in some areas (all arches, door edges, bonnet front indicators etc) and stripping the paint quite far back on the rest. I'm looking to get a total seal on petty much the whole car skin.

You can get PPG products in this country, but apples is right, you ideally want an etch. If you have access to breathing apparatus, use a chromate containing acid etch. If you don't, don't!!
