Had a gte lump put in my corsa, ran fine for 30 or so miles then i give it a bit just to the limiter in 4th but it now makes a really bad rattle when its warm and revved slowly above 2kish right thru the rest of the rev range. It doesn't do it when its cold so wondering if its the lifters, 1 or more of them. done waterpump, alternator and changed the oil/filter and it still does it. More than definately top end noise so any other ideas before i take the head off?
The lobe on 4th exhaust valve is very worn too so could that be a factor???
cheers

Ye, a worn cam/follwers etc will cause tapping.

its only when its warm where the oil obviously gets thin. sounds like a pneumatic drill when your driving though! only did it after i give it a bit so 1 might have seized.......maybe.

oil pickup might be clogged

how can i clean it ourt though? take the whole pipe off and flush it with water or something?? could it be the oil pump gears all fudged??

a fooked tappet normally is noisier on cold startup. Check the oil pickup by removing the sump and looking for sludge clooging the intake pipe.

Will do it at the weekend. Would have thought a tappet would be louder when the oil is thinner??? It started when i give it a bit of toe though hence thinking itd be a tappet. will try the pick up pipe and post on wether it wotks or not!
cheers mate

thats exactly the same as mine! when its cold its fine. but when it warms up it starts sounding like a diesel. and that happended for the first tim after it had a hard run.

Annoying aint it. cant boot it either cos seems to be a tad down on power top end of the revs. does'nt do it when its below 2000rpm when its hot but anything above that and its terrible. Gonna doi the lifters and cam this weekend see if that helps, ******* thing.....
you tried anything?

use a rocker remover to do the cam and lifter's, i'm obsesed with them, after using them for the first time on my c12nz lol :-) made life so easy. No point in lifting off the head if it and gasket are still good, you could make matter's worse, an awful lot of ppl agree that every time the head is removed the car loses a slight bit more power and is more prone to future problems

Theres usually a few going on ebay, mine cost about ?9 iirc.
Look for valve play compensator.
