i've seen worse, thats repairable, the chassis leg on my GTE was non exsistant lol, the towing eye was held up with cable ties

Jesus wept, thats nasty,Lol.
Even a weakness there, would fail mot, never mind a 4" hole.

apparently the tow eye has nothing to do with MOT bu the fact its a structural leg has alot to do with it lol

quite an easy repair

only bit of rust on the car though so im not oo worried

MOT check-list
Drivers set (snapped frame)
Rear seat bench (60/40 split - no brackets welded)
Exhaust (CAT needed)
Balljoints (X2)
Tailights (swap for GM ones)

hmm should be busy for a while.....

Are you sure you need a CAT?

I think it was hendrix that said no novas need one, correct me if I'm wrong.

Depends on the age, although Its been said that Novas don't appear on "the list" of cars that require a Cat.

i may have tha one sorted

kind of get a ahem....errrr proper wink wink nudge nudge job done for that hehe

its all do-able

geting a lend of a seat and il stick standard rear seats in (if i can find them in my nova graveyard lol)

borrow a set of standard lights too.

do the balljoints myself. get em at cost price thru work

welding......

err....so anyway....

No novas do need a cat, as they were all made before CAT rules.
But you will probably find that 1.2i,1.4i etc K-reg novas will fail MOT without a cat.
Im not putting mine in for MOT without a cat, as i dont want to pay the ?44 retest fee if it fails for not having a cat,Lol.

C12nz, c14nz,c14se,c16se all appear on the new computer system for a CAT test.

i have two options,

stick an old sytem off a standard nova on and get a legit test

or....

get a more leniant test done (still legit, just more leniant hehe)

6. Your vehicle has had its catalytic converter removed and replaced by a normal exhaust silencer but passes the emissions Test. Does it fail the MOT because it hasn't got a catalytic converter when it should have one?

a) No, if it passes the emissions part of the MOT that is acceptable.

Thats jolted my memory :D right, NO CAR physically requires a Cat to pass the MOT.

However

You DO need to pass the emissions test - which iirc for Aug 1992 onwards is more strict, and will more than likely require a Cat to pass. The question isn't so much whether you need a Cat or not, its what emissions test you have to take.

So, for example... if you took your K-reg 1.2i with decat in for an MOT and had 'tuned' it to run mega-lean to pass the emissions you'd be fine. (Thats not ideal tho as running the engine too lean will probably fcuk it, or other readings, up)

You WILL need a cat to pass from Aug 1992 onwards.
Also cars after 1995 legally require a cat iirc.

Are you confusing that with the Kit Car regs? After 1995 they have to have the "advanced emissions test" ("Cat" test, which normal road cars from August 1992 are put through), but I can't find anything about cars legally requiring a Cat to be present in the exhaust system from 1995 onwards...

my 1.4 carb is a 92 and has never had a cat and never been tested for it so i presume its only the injections that they bother testing if any.

Im sure i read somewhere that after 1995, they need a cat.
Treeted-No carb engines require a cat. Ye, its just injection engines.

Edit-Looked at the MOT site, i cant see anything either so perhaps im wrong.

His 1.2i K-reg nova will need a cat fitted for MOT.
