hi,
i was wondering if these are mot failures?

-the steering lock does not work. not sure if this can be fixed or if a new column is required?
-and rust hole in offside boot corner (see pic) it kind of looks worse in the pic as i have wax oiled it. i will get round to getting it welded as it's going to get worse, but wanted to mot the car this week before i go back to uni.

That rust hole probably will be a failure, we had a hole similar on each side of ours (no pics from before the repair sorry, but you could look straight down and see the road), plus some more welding underneath that end.

Dont think the steering lock is a failure.

crap...
how much did the welding cost to get done? im waiting for an exhaust to arrive just so i can take the car for an mot. going back to uni on saturday, and have to swap the insurance to the nova gte to take it for the mot. dont want to have to swap it back if i cant get the work done in time...

It cost us ?250 to get that welding done for its mot earlier this year. They also did some on this rear arch:

And some more on the underside, we ended up with a spare bumper mounting bracket that is apparently "no longer needed", but looks like the bracket in the red square I drew on, but from the drivers side.

i cant afford ?250... its costing me an extra ?250 to insure the car, and then theres mot and tx costs ahhhhh... i can weld, but dont have a welder and dont fancy welding near the fuel tank...

The car is in Wrexham atm and I'm in Nottingham so I can't check, but I know we had more done than I have pics of, if yours is ok underneath it'll probably be a lot cheaper.

mine had a new plate put in the bottom only cost ?50 and he undersealed it and wax oiled it 2. just taken the tank off mine today nothing to it really depends if ur exhaust will come off without damage and the breather pipe is abit of an **** to take off.

well the car has no exhaust system on it and the fuel pipes were changed by me the other day... just rang a mobile welder, he's going to come have a look at it tomorrow. by the time i hire a welder and materials etc... it all adds up, and it still might not pass. would rather get it done by a pro.

Don't blame ya and it makes sense.

Were did ya get ya fuel pipes from? only vauxhalls seem to do them round here and there useless and expensive

the welder has just been round to look at the car, was suprised by the condition for a 18year old... checked it all over and said that the hole is the only thing that needs doing. quoted me ?60 to cut it out, plate it and then build the chassis leg up to the plate.
does ?60 sound about right?

Yeah that sounds ok.
