need to do some welding near were the loom goes through the bulkhead (behind the brake servo) but there is loads of foam under the metal that the heater sits on .
if i remove the dash an all of the heater assembly is it possable to get your hand through the square hole (where the heater was) an pull out the layers of sponge ?

the square hole you speak of is only a single layer of metal, and the foam you mention IIRC is the lining around the matrix inlet.

Not sure about 'foam' around the loom exit hole? Not anywhere near the heater??

Where have you got to weld?

Think i know part you mean, behind the pedals?
Its sound deadening foam.
You can remove it if you lift the carpet.
