The etching is often done by a small sandblaster type thing, will be a bu**er to polish out, and it is a security feature anyway.

its easy to polish out with the right tools, a friend of mine got one done, he took it to a glazers and they machine polished it out. if youve got a dremel, use that with a small fibre head and some suitable compounds. its also possible with a oxy-cetylene welding torch.

ps.if you do polish it out, theres always going to be a small indentation.

Ive seen a few cars with the etching polished out but it still leaves a kind of clear 'scar' in the glass.

Even replacement windows will have some sort of markings of origin.

breeny, there must be about a ton of nova glass at the farm.. might be lucky..

ive seen some windows that were etched and then got moved about car to car and the number plate was simply block etched out so its jsut a rectangle on there

I dont know how long it will take and what the glazier would charge an hour for grinding the numbers out, but it might pay to look into (no pun intended) perspex or polycarb windows while the glass is out. It will be lighter, stronger and won't have any markings. Try www.plastics4performance.co.uk (http://www.plastics4performance.co.uk) on 07890 513398.

its also possible with a oxy-cetylene welding torch.

how the hell would do it with that? wouldn't the heat crack the glass??:tard:

if you heat it up too quick it may do but if you heat it up slowly eg brushing the flame over the surface then it should be ok. if you havnt tried this before, polishing would be the safer option.

Think I'll be doing this with mine!! I tried G3 rubbing compound, I'd say if you had a few years to spare you probably could get it off one window!!!!lol

did you use a polisher or do it by hand?? you will be there for ever doing it by hand. if you dnt want to buy any more metal cutting compound, try something such as copper grease or a metal cutting compound. like i say if you dont machine polish it theres no chance as the glass is hardeded anyway.
