1.4sr with an astra 1.3 carb head, any good?

Hi,
i have got a 1.4sr nova with standard carb and inlet/exhaust manifolds, in my yard i also have a 1.3 astra on a carb and wondered would i get any benifits from taking this head off the astra to be ported and polished and putting it on to mine?

You would get a few more ponies yes, but you would have to use the 1.3 inlet manifold aswell, because the inlet ports are a different shape.

As above ^ a worthwhile modification, I had this done to my last Nova, then I added some nova sport 40's! ;)

The best option if you want to use twin 40's is the c14se head from the sri, the ports on this are even better as standard and they have larger valves, probably the equivalent of a B++ package on a 1.3 head from Blyndenstein.

sound, might take it to bits this weekend then and get the head rebuilt and sorted etc. will my peirburg carb fit on the 1.3 inlet manifold? also will i need to get the carb re jetted or anything? and finally is it worth me getting an ashley or similar 4-2-1 manifold?

Its best to use a weber 32/34 carb. Also the 4 branch IMO wont really give any power gains, but the noise is nicer & the engine sounds smoother.

Your carb will fit if the 1.3 manifold is for the same carb. It would be wise to have it rolling road tuned once it's all back together. The standard exhaust manifold design is widely regarded as being very good for most driving conditions, an aftermarket 4-1 or 4-2-1 manifold is only really required if you're chasing big output at high revs.

ok, ill see if i can get the weber but would the pierburg work alright for the time being?

Yep the pierburg will be ok for now, the main reason people change to the weber is it gets rid of the auto-choke, and it also has larger chokes so you can get more air in.

Sorry to hijack, but if the nova came with a manual choke, what carb is likely to be in there?

Pre '85 1.3's will have the 1b1, anything later should have the 2e3.
