Wondering has anyone ever changed the bearing/seal for the shaft which go's from the gearbox to the flywheel/clutch before, whilst the gearbox is still in the bay?

I was thinking if i remove the end plate, the guts should just slide out, replace the seal/bearing and hey presto? Or am i thinking its alot easier than it is?

Its a F13 CR box/nova.

I dont think you can completely remove the input shaft with the box in the bay.
Assuming you need to completely remove the shaft to change the seal/bearing.

need to pull the box iirc to get to that seal..
So in that case you might aswell get another box, clean it up and paint etc what ever you do to bling it up. Renew the seal and then swap the casings...

Ah bugger.

I knew it wouldnt be straight forward.

These are the photos i took the time i changed the FD.

The internals come out attached to the end plate, which is handy! I dont think the diff needed to be removed to take them out either.

Only thing is, if i managed to get them out like this, could the bearing be sorted from the inside?

i can see your reasoning for thinking you can pull it form the inside... but GM probably werent that helpful.
plus the bearing would be a cow to pull too.

Just off the phone to an ex vaux mechanic.

The seal is at the other side of the bearing, its attached to the release bearing section. Can be done in the car if you pull the shaft back, and remove the clutch and release bearing.

I havent got the tool for removing the clutch inside the car tho!

what "tool" ? the clips to hold the clutch plate compressed? easy to get form motorfactors..
