View Full Version : Box for 6" mid-range/subs
Just aquired two 6" mid-range/bass speakers which produce enough sound to go in the boot, so I'm planning on building a box for them. Does anybody have advice for such a task? Should the box(es) be ported or sealed? Unsure of their specs so how should I work out dimensions?
Thanks. :)

dunno, try a box half the size of a 12" sub????
sealed better i think, depends what ur listening to
6" may be a little small for anything below about 200Hz.
Try here (http://www.ajdesigner.com/speaker/index.php) for some free box design software. I'd go for a ported design as you'll get the most out of them as they wont be capable of thumping bass.

What make are they? Manufacturer's website may have an online manual which specifies if they can be mounted in a box, and volume/dimensions etc.
Razorjack: The speakers are from a Merc apparently, my mate said he tried to look them up on the Internet with little success.
bump: I know 6" is hardly pushing major bass but they sounded alright when I wired them in to my head unit earlier, and the boot seemed to produce as gooder sound as under the front seats. :p
I'll be listening to a bit of everything really; dance, hiphop, drum & bass and a bit of rock stuff. I'll check out the app and see what I can do. :thumb:

Don't forget to run them with a bandpass filter to get better quality out of them. They want the bass cutting off at about 200hz and the highs about 3Khz, this will ensure they only produce mid-bass frequencies.
By all means use them, they will certainly improve things. Under the seat may be a good idea as its wasted space really, and will allow you to use your boot for something else.

Might as well post the results in this thread. ;)
It looks **** at the moment, but the box is built and temporarily wired in. The bass is pretty crazy for just two 6" speakers. lol

The box is roughly 60cm wide, 30cm high, and 20cm back and sealed. Just got to make it look respectable lol
Been hard at work today. Wired it in properly so it's all hidden, with a connector so I can easily remove it from the boot if I wish, and carpetted it.
