Just took the nova i brought sunday in for an mot, changed the front springs as the originals were cut, disks and wheels bearings.

-It has failed on, nearside headlight not workin on main/dipped could this just be a fuse as its a new bulb?
-n/s+o/s front suspension component mounting persbribed area is excessivly corroded ( no idea what this means???)
-both front and one rear coil spring mounting loose. is there anyway to secure these?
-excessive play in rear wheel bearing .
-front tyres and one rear are catchin on the bodywork

any idea on how to sort these problems guessin the bearing needs to be changed and the wheels to stop them rubbing.

the headlight will more likely be a loose wire, check them all.

n/s = nearside o/s = offside. That line means that you've got too much rust around your suspension mounts in the front.

As for the tyres catching, you could roll the arches possible. What size are the tyres, and whats the offset on the wheels?

its catching on the inside edge when i turn, there cav wheels i think, with 195/50 tyres

would imagine you could use 185 tyres may help. I had cav 14 inch alloys with 185 50 and it still would rub the inside front arch, not the arch lip but the inner arch. Altough i can't say for sure if this was just down to a factory machining tolerance, because i have seen other nova's with et49 wheels with 185 width and no scrubbage.

Cav GSI wheels are usually fine, those are some fairly big tyres though some 185/<smaller> would help.

As for the rust issue, is it the strut tops rotted?

More than likely yes /\
Or the inner wing, but as it said mounting, its probably the turret.

Cav wheels shouldn't rub on anything with 195/45 tyres on.

Rear wheel bearing is easy to change

Cheers for the help guys.
just been back to the mot station to talk to the bloke who did it.
Strut top mounting is just the rubber mount at the top spinning cuz of no pressure being put on it as the spring are not touching the mount.

The corrosion is at the front of the car where i think the tie bar mounts at the front this is both side, looks pretty tricky to weld aswell :(

Any ideas on how to keep the springs in place an stop them from moving about whilst in the shock as it failed on this.

Do you have standard shock absorbers?

Sounds to me, the std shocks are letting the rear beam and front strut move too much when the car is jacked up, so theres no pressure holding the springs in.

The part that the tie bars mount is the crossmember.

Can you weld yourself?
If might cost you quite a bit going on garage prices for welding.

just got myself some wheels to use for the mot. luckily my dad can weld so if its not too difficult he may be able to sort it out for me with a few plates, might see if i can pick up some standard suspension from a scrapyard to use too.

I cut the springs on my old mk1 escort, is that an MOT failure then?

if they can be moved about when the cars jacked up then yes.
