im planning on putting a 1.6 spi in to my nova. just wondering if the engine is 1990 1991 and was before the catalitic converter became compalsary, would i get through an mot emessions test without a cat?
i know id have to change the log books etc and it'l be going into a late 1992 nova
any advice would be great :thumb:

Ye, it would pass
BUT
you would have to prove the age of the engine, and most 1.6spi engines have to have a cat test, as most are 1992/93 on.
Before then the engines were carb, or early mpi(nova gte engine)

So i doubt you would find a 1.6spi engine that could pass without a cat.

And tbh, the 1.6spi engine will give about the same power as a 1.3SR engine, cost a lot more to insure, and more to tax.

Easy if you get the right fuel pressure regulator.

and then do i conect up the wires that do conect and leave the ecu and other bits?

Rip the SPI ecu out, and all the wiring out, or leave it tied up disconnected.

Only wiring for the carb is the ignition coil, and usual things like oil pressure sensor, coolant temp etc.
Leave the SPI starter/alternator wiring, and refit that to the SR engine.
